ROG Swift vs 4k

Go to solution Solved by ChrisxIxCross,

Like I said getting a 2nd 980 wont be a problem. So with SLI 980s is the ROG SWIFT still the better choice?

Yes 100%! I actually had the Asus 4K monitor and ended up getting the swift. Picture quality is a tad worse but nothing can beat the buttery smoothness of 144hz G-Sync!

Ok first of all, I know I have posted a few times on here about this build. But I finally pulled the trigger on everything but a monitor. Link - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YM8QLk

I was 99% sure I wanted the ROG Swift until I watched Linus's review of the Acer XB280HK 4k G-sync monitor. This really sparked my interest in 4k gaming so I need some help deciding what monitor to get. Getting another 980 in SLI won’t be an issue if I’m not happy with the frame rates, But to start I will only be running 1 card. I will mainly be gaming so TN vs IPS isn't too big of an issue to me.

Really what I want to know is should I stick with the ROG Swift G-sync at 1440p and 144 Hz? Or should I go with a 4k monitor at 60 Hz with G-sync? Being that this is my first build I don’t think 60 Hz is going to bother me too much. And from the reviews I have read, 4K looks extremely well, Especially with G-sync. Of course these aren't the only 2 monitors I’m considering, I am always up to suggestions. I would like to stay away from 1080p being that I am wanting at least a 27" monitor.

Thanks again!

4k is really tough for your GPU to render games on

And 1440p over 60 FPS isn't? He'll need a second 980 to make use of 144hz on the swift, and a second 980 to make proper use of the 4k monitor.  Either way it needs a second GPU.

This^

I would still go with the swift if he want to go wit hone GPU. That way he sill at least be getting a decent amount of fps.

hello g-sync?

a 980 can get 45+ fps (needed for g-sync) on all games just turn down the graphics a little

Why bother buying something you can't make full use of?  Lol.
