Hey Linus Tech Tips,

I currently have an AMD Radeon R9 270X in my machine which while not bad has it limitations.  I'm thinking about putting some of my spending money into a more powerful GPU that would give me more FPS and be able to run more intense games.  Should I go with a current card such as a GTX 900 series? Or should I wait for the GeForce 1000 and RX 300 series?

the GTX 970 offers great performance for a great price. how much are you looking to spend? the 970 and 980 are both great cards

if you are reading this you are wasting valuable time and should maybe rethink your life choices.

I'm willing to shell out some good money if I need to.  As much as $600 I would say.  Possibly a little bit more.

I'd say just upgrade and when the new cards are announced sell the current one pay the difference and get the next gen theres no point in waiting for a newer card if when the new cards are going to come out the same dilemma is presented. Buy the 970 or 980 enjoy it and if you feel you need to upgrade buy the newer card if not don't.

You don't need an upgrade. Or At least wait for R9 300 series!

So in your opinion would the 270X last me for a while still?

Well consider this:

For you a 980 would be a monumental upgrade. Even a 970 would be a nice improvement.

If you can get a Titan Black for the same price as a 980, grab that instead. The 6GB vRAM buffer is gonna chew through any level of unoptimization a game dev will toss your way for the next few years.

Otherwise, grab 970 and OC or grab 980 and stroke e-peen.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

THE INFORMATION GUIDES: SLI INFORMATION || vRAM INFORMATION || MOBILE i7 CPU INFORMATION || Maybe more someday

It all depends on your personal financial situation and budget.  Don't be an idiot and spend money you don't have for a video card you don't need.

If I can ever find a brand new titan black at the price of a 980 then pretty much a lot of us would totally buy it ^_^.

damn titan blacks availability is not good in my country.

Live your life like a dream.
