So I bought a crappy mobo from asus, its like their entry model, and it doesn't over clock what so ever. All my overclock attempts end in really high temp with no boost in clock speeds... I'm blaming the mobo because I have enough power: 500w corsair, system recommendation only 340w in total.. my intel extreme tuning also shows my 3570k, but doesn't allow me to boost from the utility, i've been using the asus suite. Please help! Do I need a different mobo? Am I doing something wrong?

A motherboard does not cause high temperatures. A bad chip/bad cooler/badly mounted cooler do that.

My apologies, (I had a physics lab and couldn't get the info.) My mobo is an asus p8h61-m le r2.0. Link to website. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61M_LE_R20/ as far my cooler, it is a cooler master  Hyper N520. I have it set for stock because the OC settings were doing absolutely nothing. The one setting I played with was setting the voltage to 1.2(vs.1.015 base) and increase by in bclk frequency to 105.

Ive watch several. I coverclocked my last processor very sucessfully. I just hope to computer jesus I didnt loose the sillicon lottery....

Even at base clock. The 3570K has no issues with modern games.

But yes. Z77A is the way to go for OC.

It's not worth picking up a Z77 board to overclock unless you want to do it for giggles. You won't get any better performance for 90% of the tasks average people do including gaming.

If you already had Z77 it'd be another story but I don't suggest you spend the money. You'll need a decent heatsink/AIO unit as well. $$.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.
