So, i have this question but it's gonna take some explaining...

So in my laptop right now i have 1 120gb ssd and a 500gb hdd. Can i just put these hdd's in my new build and install the new drivers or do i have to swap the data onto an external and then swap onto the newly formatted drive?

So in better context etc,

in laptop:

120gb ssd

500gb hdd

put them into new pc with any problems. Like straight swap, then install drivers etc.

Sorry if this makes no sense.

Maybe.

What are you going from and what is the new computer?

I would definitely back up all first before you try.

Guaranteed you will need to re-activate windows, and you may need to use a windows disk to run repair.

If you can manage to remove the HDD/SSD from your laptop, place it in your rig and have the right connector/interface, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.

Probably not. You might be able to, it depends on what your coming from and what your going to. If they are roughly the same platform, it might work, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Then go for it :)

When going from AMD > Intel or Intel > AMD is when i have had the most failures. Intel>Intel seems to work a bit better.

I would recommend making plans to re-install at some point in the future, though. Nothing quite like a fresh install :)

It should be noted though if you are trying to go to a new chipset/different generation like z77 to a z97, things are probably not gonna go great. It might work, but it'd be iffy.

This is true. Its always iffy, hah.

However, I just successfully went from Z77 to Z97 with windows 8.1 with no issues :)
