Corsair RM650, CoolerMaster V650 or other?

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750/850W.

I think the 750 is available for $80 and comes with a 10 year warranty, as well as a lot of very desirable features.

So my PSU looks to be biting the dust after 4 years of use. I need to get it replaced ASAP before buying a GTX 970 so it won't harm any other components.

Should I grab a Corsair RM650 or a CoolerMaster V650?

They are priced almost the same ($20 difference) in my area, the Philippines.

If you have any other suggestions, please don't hesitate. I just hope that they sell what you'll suggest here too :)

Have you looked at the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W? I'd go RM because it's fully modular unlike the V650, which is semi (believe me I have one :P). If your case has good cable management and the V650 is considerably cheaper I'd go V650 'cause I'm cheap :D

lol., I'd also go with the V650 but I'm just considering the flat black 20+4 pin connector that comes with the Corsair ones :P

Also, most people are recomending the V series now rather than Corsair's RM series in reviews. :D

I say RM 650, I don't see how it can be better except if you want a power supply with LED lights built-in the fan lol

Id love to get that as I've been eyeing EVGA PSUs for quite a while now because of warranty length but sadly they don't sell them here in the Philippines :(

=( thats a bummer.  These are some of the best PSUs on the market.  no fan spin below a certain temperature, as opposed to load, which is how it should be.  All black cables standard, some of the highest quality components available, and to top it off, 10 year warranty.  Also received a 9.9/10 from Johnny Guru.

If you are limited to picking between those two you mentioned, I would go for the V650.  I've just heard way too many bad things about the RM650.  The RM750 and 850 aren't supposed to be as bad, but the 650 is a problem unit from what I've heard. I want to be clear that I am exaggerating the use of the word "bad."  The RM series are good PSUs, its just that at the same price, there are much better options out there, namely the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 PSUs.  The RM650 is a legitimately a sub-standard unit though.  Complaints of coil whine and other flaws are widespread.  I would avoid that particular RM unit.

If I were to buy a new PSU right now, my top two choices would be Fractal Design's Newton R3 600W and the V650.

So I guess that's another vote for the V650.

I did more research on the EVGA one and I'll just get it from amazon and get it shipped here. It costs much less than the V650 (with philippine currency) than the EVGA 750 watt G. I think it'll be the best buy for me.

Thanks!

The EVGA NEX is nowhere near as good as the G2 model. I would say it is worse than the Corsair RM.

Is there a difference between the 750 G and the 750 G2? I'm planning to get the G version but maybe shed some light on the G2?

The NEX G1 is a different platform (Aurum) to the G2/P2 models, and it is also made by a different manufacturer (FSP). The G2/P2 units are made by Superflower and are based on the Leadex units.

I see. So which one will be better? EVGA 750G2 or Cooler Master V650 semi-modular?

I would not go back to a semi-modular PSU now that I've experienced what it is like to have a fully modular one. Between the two, definitely the EVGA one!  :)

Damn. If only my local retailers sell EVGA PSU's then I'd be pretty happy.. Shipping from Amazon to my country costs 3/4 the price of the PSU :(

Anyways, can you suggest any other Fully modular PSU's that's 650 watts or 750 watts? Seasonic? Cooler Master? Hec? FSP? Corsair?
