Quick question about radiator fans

Go to solution Solved by FizzyFantom,

I don't see a problem in this, it can't hurt. Even if that case fan isn't designed for Radiators, it can still help a little bit.

I have encountered issue with mismatched fans. The case fan will impede airflow through the radiator rather than increasing it and the other fan would be required to have a greater static pressure to move the air through the rad an the fan together.

OP, it isn't advisable to use mismatched fans in push pull as the airflow and static pressure of the fans would likely be different. You may find that the other fan makes no difference or even reduces the efficacy of the cooler, but it won't hurt to try it. I suggest you test it out to see if it makes a noticable difference.

Here's the deal:

I currently have this as my CPU cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103195

and I happen to have this as my extra fan: http://www.deepcool.com/product/dcoolingaccessory/casefan/2013-12/47_623.shtml

I plan to put the radiator in a pull setup, where the fan serves as an exhaust, pulling air out of the case.

Outside < Fan < Radiator

Question: Is it okay for me to use the extra fan to make a push-pull setup? I have it lying around and didn't want it to be wasted. So it'll be like:

Outside < Radiator Fan < Radiator < Case Fan

Noob here. I'm still new to all this and I'm just looking at this in terms of not wasting any fans.

As long as you're using the same fan for push/pull, you're fine.

So I take it that, it's better to have the SAME fans if I'm planning on doing push pull?

Yes, because if one fan is stronger than the other this will have adverse effects on the weaker fans. With adverse effects being shorter life span, annoying noises from increased stress on the motor or bearing and worst-case scenario the fan breaks.
