I have my heart set on getting a 21:9 monitor, but I'm not sure if my GPU can handle one.

2_Blazed_2_B_Fazed

So I have my heart set on eventually buying an LG 34UM65-P, and my current PC GPU is a XFX R9 280X, which only has an output for a mini-display port, HDMI and DVI. As far as I know, HDMI is unable to display in 21:9, so that leaves me with either DVI or mini-display port. Would you guys possibly be able to offer up the pros/ cons of each of these and if anything that I just stated was wrong. Hope you guys can help out!

For your case specifically, there is no difference between DP and DVI. Like you said, HDMI doesn't support 21:9, so either of those will work.

An adapter should work fine

I would go with a mini-DP to DP cable .

So would I try to find a mini-DP to DP adapter? Would that effect the signal or anything like that?

Just grab a hdmi 2.0 cable and 21:9 will work fine as its now supported.

Or he could just not buy anything and use Dual Link DVI?

Is 2.0 compatible with my GPU's HDMI output? (yes I know this sounds really unintelligent).

Well that's what I was wondering, is there any advantage of using a Dual Link DVI instead of HDMI 2.0?

There is a locking mechanism where HDMI doesn't. And if you already have the D-DVI, you don't have to spend any money!

DVI supports 2560x1600 max, so you could get a 29 inch@1080p and use DVI or adapt from minidp to dp if you want a 34 inch@1440p

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
