I just put together a new system, and when I try to install Windows 8 on it it says some thing like (translated):

You can not install Windows on this drive. The selected disk has a MBR-something (I can't translate, it's something about a table). In EFI based systems Windows can only be installed on GPT drives.

Specs:

Sempron 2650

Gigabyte AM1M-S2H

2x2GB Kingston value RAM (used)

250GB Samsung SATA HDD (used)

9600GT (used)

The Windows key I am using has been used once before, but it seems to be no problem with the key.

All help appreciated!

Is it a monkey? Is it an ape? I don't care, I LOVE'EM!

i think it is MBR-partition table and it needs to be GPT (GUID partition table)

Run GParted as a live CD/USB to erase the partitions on the drive.

If the drive you are trying to have any used partitions, you will have to delete those in order to correctly format it to install windows. Even if it doesn't, try to format the drive, and it should work.

Please tell me how to remove the partitions, what @AnnoyedShelf said doesn't (no offense) make a lot of sense to me.

Well first you have to download GParted, and install the image to a USB drive using a program called UNetBootIn.  You then boot the computer from the USB drive, and you can modify partitions from there.

Windows has it with itself, you don't need to download anything to remove something. When you go to install windows 8, click advanced/custom(one of those is used), when you get there, it will show if you have more than 1 partition. Each partition will be classed as a either a separate drive, or will flat out partition. Once there, you just have to click on the partition, ad navigate to the delete option at the bottom of the windows.

Reminder: This is all done within the windows installation screen. Only thing needed is the windows iso, activation key, and a thumb drive, or a dvd.
