No to crossfire a 280 you need another r9 280 or what ever the 280 is a refresh of (7950 i think)

not entirely correct.  you can use any GPU that uses that same core design.  The R9 280 should be able to crossfire with a R9 280, R9 280X, HD7950, HD7970, and any of their variants.  There may be another card that doesn't come to mind right off hand, but its called Tahiti.  So go look that up, anything based on Tahiti will crossfire together.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

Yeah i forgot about that but to me it seems a bit weird to do it.

When you look at these different GPU's don't look at them as completely different GPUs.  To compare them to cars, imagine a Ford (AMD) Taurus (Tahiti) SE (R9 280) versus a Ford (AMD) Taurus (Tahiti) Touring Sedan (HD7950).  They are the same video card just a few more bells and whistles.  I also looked into the 7870 XT is also a Tahiti core, but I DONT think it is crossfire'able for some stupid reason.  Do you'll need to do some more research on that for me though, cause I'm too lazy to do it.

So I am thinking about buying a new gpu for my computer, it currently has a MSI radeon HD 7750, and I am planning on getting an XFX r9 280. Will I be able to run them in crossfire for extra performance.

It isn't worth crossfiring a 7750 with anything except another 7750 and even then if you play older games the problems may outweigh the gains.

A 7870XT can be crossfired with any tahiti core gpu.
