ES File Explorer (Anyone know how to use it?)

Lays

I got an app that "apparently" I can go into my network and browse files on the other PCs on my network, so I could watch movies / listen to music through my network and also move files around if needed via my tablet (nexus 7) but I have no idea how to connect to the PC's to access their files.

I can go into the LAN tab and scan for the PC's in my network, but when I go to connect to them it asks for Username and Password, I tried using the login for my router, for my PC, making random things up and nothing works.

Any advice / other apps that I can do this with?

If this helps, I have a Netgear R6300 router.

I'd like to know too. When I first got the app, it just worked straight up from what I can remember, but since flashing a different ROM, I can't manage to get it to work again.

You need to have some sftp smb server running on the PCs iirc...

It works on my moms PC without any issues, but on my PC it won't work. I dunno why :/

I just made Shares on my pc and gave my user a password. Also if you want it to be permanent, give your PC an IP reservation on your router. That way you don't have to rescan every time you restart your pc.

My friend @lekro has set it up with his home NAS

Hi. Yes, I have. It works perfectly with ES File explorer, except it doesn't show up in the LAN list. I have to manually add it. Otherwise, I get flawless playback and browsing and all the files are stored in one place, so transferring files isn't even necessary.

As for Samba, I thought that was installed by default/not necessary on Windows.

Make sure that:

- You are accessing the correct IP for your computer

- You have a password set on your computer

- You are sharing the files on your computer
