WD Red is pretty solid. A few people here use then as regular HDD's (Despite being optimized for NAS use) and are very happy with the results. Reliable, cool and pretty quiet.

The WD Greens usually don't do well in RAID either, so I wouldn't recommend those.

I would look at the WD Reds if I were you. The WD Blacks usually also have a long runtime.

Seagate has their NAS Drives. I have heard good things about them, but I have no personal experience.

Hi there, I would also recommend the WD Red which are specifically designed for RAID environments.

These drives have the TLER feature, which prevents the hard drives from being dropped off the array due to extended error recovery.

This way you will experience less down time rebuilding the RAID.

You can find some more info about the HDDs here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810

Hope this helps.

I am really sorry to hear about the issue with the external drive.

Unfortunately there is always a chance that a hard drive may fail, that is why it is highly recommendable to backup your data.

The WD Red line has a  3-year warranty, which, I hope, you will not need to use in case you decide to go for this drive.

Hope this helps.

@Dorian_WD

So i should buy the WD reds from that distributor(absolutely no link on their website to buy WD drives )  or i can buy on ebay and then go to them in case the drive fails to get another one

This way i will get peace of mind

Thanks a lot for helping me out.,,
