7990 still worth it?

So there's a 7990 on Amazon for £300, do you think it's worth it, or should I go with an R9 390/GTX970? There's also a GTX690 for £350.

The fans don't more any air through the cooler. They were made to be quiet, not efficient.

AMD R9 390 is pretty far away because all the 20nm stuff. I don't know if the R9 300 series will be the best series ever, but right now, in the $300-350 the GTX 970 is dominating. It's one of the best price/performance cards right now, offering GTX 780 performance, with an extra GB of VRAM for less money. Also, thanks to Maxwell efficiency, this 900 series cards can be overclocked very well, so you get free extra performance.

 

If you need a GPU now, go for a 970.

now the 980 out performs that card so yeah and the crossfire profiles for games is also something to consider.

Considering how GPUs like to be priced, its almost never advisable to buy dated cards unless your reaching towards the top of your budget. It would perform just fine if you can get one for a good enough deal

I'd say wait for next gen AMD gpus and then see how things turn out...
Prices should drop atleast a little on newer gpus

Also side note:

R9 390/GTX970?

The rumors are saying that the 970 will be more comparable to the 370/370x/380  and that 980 will be comparable to the 380x/390... And that 390x will be designed to compete with the GM200/GM210(based on the rumors are supposed to be the "980ti" or "Maxwell Titan" 's gpu)
