building my first system

Go to solution Solved by ImBleu,

Always. Use. PCPartpicker. Please.

As for your choices I agree with the 550D and 970, the Ax860i is a bit much and a 760i would've sufficed for quite a bit cheaper. I'd go for the 4690k as an easy overclock translates to more performance. 8GB is enough for a gaming rig, in my opinion but 16GB would do better. And I swear by Corsair SSDs, Intel would be the second best to me.

Motherboards is a different story. I've used MSI motherboards in Z87 but for my z97 upgrade I'm going for the Hero or Ranger, depending on what I can get my hands on at the time :)

EDIT: And welcome to the LTT forums @Nepheliod :)

I'd also like to add that incase you are interested; this is my build plan so far:

NZXT H440

Intel i5-4690k

Asus Strix 970

Asus Maximus Hero

Corsair AX760

Corsair H105

Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133Mhz 8GB

Corsair Force LS 128GB (x2)

WD 1TB HDD (x2)

While it isn't your build it is quite similar. So that could give you an idea of what I believe is a strong build for the price point.

If anyone see this would you all mind helping me to pick some of my build part

What i have bought is

Casing-Corsair 550D

PSU-Corsair AX860i

GPU-Asus Strix Geforce GTX970

And these i can't make decision of which to take

CPU-Intel Core i5 4690 or 4690k

RAM-Kingston Hyper X Fury PC 1866 DDR3 8GB or 16GB

SSD-Intel 530 series 180GB or Kingston Hyper X 3K 120GB

Lastly motherboards is the hardest decision for me due to there is so many type of board out there and i don't know which is good

there is a few i choose ~Asus Maximus VII Ranger

                                    ~Asus Maximus VII Hero

                                    ~MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or 7

                                    ~MSI Z97 MPOWER

Please and thank you first for your opinion

CPU: If you dont wanna overclock get the 4690 if you do then get the K-version

RAM: 8GB is sufficient for gmaing

MOBO: If you dont get the K-version CPU then you can buy a cheap H97 chipset Mobo otherwise my suggestion would be the MSI Z97 Gaming 5.

Definitely the 860i is overkill, you're probably not even going to need 750 but it's better to have a little extra anyways, 860 would just be a waste of money really. Depending on your budget, I'd either suggest a Cooler Master air cooling option ~$40 or an AIO watercooling option from either Corsair, NZXT, or Cooler Master (depending on budget and rad size you can fit). I like the 550D, but I'm not sure it beats out cheaper silence optimized cases like the Fractal Define R4 or NZXT H440, both of which come in at a lower price and the H440 has that sleek looking PSU cover. Samsung, Crucial, Corsair, Intel, Kingston--they all make very good SSDs, so that part will be up to you; the two you've listed are excellent value per dollar performers.

Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 | ASUS Z97-A | Intel Core i5 4690K | G.Skill Ripjaw 4 GB (desperately needs upgrade) | MSI Radeon R9 290 | EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 | Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD | Seagate Constellation 1 TB HDD (also needs upgrade) | NZXT Kraken X61 for CPU | NZXT Kraken X61 + G10 for GPU | Corsair M45 | CM Storm Quickfire TK | ASUS Xonar DSX | Denon AD-H2000

I agree with the power supply option too but i'm planning for future expansion usage just in case

totally agree with you but i can't get all this stuff with this price point due to i'm from Malaysia so everything here is a lot more expensive and i didn't see fractal design case near my area

and i'm going with water cooling cpu

psu is for future expansion use plus around here i just add a few buck to it i can get bigger psu

i'd recommend a gigabyte gaming 5 to match the 970 you chose

The 970 strix is mostly black. The MSI board is mostly black aswell with some red accents - id say it would fit best. Asus boards have too much red imo

I see. I'm still not sure if you would need the 860 though, especially since having a significantly overpowered PSU can mean less efficiency. What kind of expansion are you planning? You should check around the forum about the H100i, as I've noticed a number of threads about problems people have had with it.

From Linus's latest videos, 16GB DDR4 + i7-5930k Overclocked + 4x GTX980 came up to about 820watts. I don't really think you need the 860 in my opinion :)
