Hey guys, just wondering what would happen if a HDD was mounted vertically instead of horizontally? Is that fine or would it ruin the drive. Just wondering...Thanks!

Nothing, so long as it doesn't get jostled around much. But that goes for any orientation.

Lots of experiments have been tested for hard drive orientation and they found that there is almost no difference in putting it in any 90* angle. Only at an awkward angle will you get shortened lifespan and other issues.

My old Dell Dimension 3000 has a vertical hard drive mount and it's been running fine for ~10 years

Some cases (e.g. my Brother's Node 804) come designed for vertical mounting, so I assume it's fine

Most business slim desktops are designed to be hanged behind monitor and they still use HDDs.
