Hey, so i am going to buy a new processor in the near future and my friends told me that an mATX board will make it so the processor can't go to the max perfomance. it would be nice with some help and know if i need a new case and motherboard to :)

You can get a decent overclock on an mATX board. Maybe not as high as an ATX board, but certainly nothing to sneeze at.

That shouldn't be a problem. I assume they are talking about overclocking, and that mATX boards have a smaller board than ATX, along with presumably a smaller power delivery system. With the new Haswell CPUs, the VRM is built into the CPU, so it essentially levels the playing field, and you will be able to get a similar overclock with a mATX board and an ATX board.

Unless you are going for a really high overclock with beast cooling an mATX board will be absolutely fine for you, assuming you dont need the extra pcie expansion that a full size ATX mobo gives you.

If you are going to buy a haswell chip then of course you will need to buy an new motherboard. I would suggest anything from MSI or asus (their new gold/yellow mobos look awsome) and if you are going with matx get somthing like a corsari 350D. in my opinion it is the best matx case out there

I don't think a board size will cause that.

It's just that, when you're using smaller board, there's so much space available for you to stuff things in so that it's feature packed.

If it's a good board, it shouldn't degrade CPU's performance. It'll just lack other extra features.

For overclocking, there are some high performance mATX boards that will give you good overclocking capability.

An matx nowaways does just as much as an atx moherboard does--just with less pci-e/pci slots for dual graphics cards and whatnot.

No motherboard can let a processor reach it's max performance.

Yeah I doubt the size of the board makes that much difference anyways. Just go with whatever board that has the features you want and is in your price range.

It can. Bigger motherboards allow for more power phases to be present.(IVB and lower)

Yeah but I guess in terms of Haswell not to much difference apparently. Ofc for older gens like you said it's right.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?
