legend8887

How well can the GTX 980 run the most modern games in 1440P? I am planning on getting the PG278Q for my PC. Max settings with no anti-aliasing.

Rest of my specs:

i7 4790K

16GB RAM

256GB SSD

2TB HDD

Maximus VII Hero

850 G2 PSU

H100i

I would suggest getting GTX 970 SLI instead. Only about $140 more but so much more power

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

I'd recommend SLI. Even with no AA, you'll be running into drops--and more as time goes on. But hell, buy the one now and get another one later.

Threadjack, should i get 970 sli or single 980 to maybe sli in future(like spring/next summer)?

For me, $137 between 970sli and single 980

Will be both gaming and editing videos and pictures.

Maybe i should even go 2x 970 now and go 3x 970 next summer? But then id have to change psu...

I have the ROG swift and I'm going with SLI 980s. I say buy the 980 and wait to buy a second one. Also Gsync should do you good if you experience dips.

I would definitely choose single 980 , cause the power itself will hold 2 more year ,  i believe next one year you could get another 980 to bump up the performance . i don't know about you guys , but i don't like SLI in most part , i would only choose SLI if i have the most powerful single GPU in the planet , and i still need to pump up the performance. (i would never buy a TITAN )

I'd say although 2x 970SLI would be better now, there's no guarantee that it'll hold itself in the future, and 3x SLI performance doesn't scale itself too well, either.

I'd suggest a 980 now then SLI it in the future, as far as benchmarks go, 3x SLI's performance doesn't scale as well as 2x in quite some games.
