You should still get at least 40-50fps in most games. You'll be fine for the time being.

I currently have one 7970 and was thinking about buying 2 1440p monitors (possibly from Asus) I would only game on one and was wondering if I would need to upgrade my GPU. If I shouldnt need to upgrade, how long before I would need to. Thanks

you wont need to upgrade with that i wouldnt think, you should be good for a long while with that card its still a really strong card

If you want to max games then you need two cards. Some games you'll be more then fine with one card but a lot of games like Crysis 3 or Metro Last Light need multiple cards.

im well aware but he didnt say max settings, and amd has major frame rating issues anyway so xfire is worthless

Well I was just putting it out there for him lol. Sometimes I wished I didn't go 1440p just because its expensive to drive the resolution. I wish there was a single card out there that could handle it but there's not, not even the Titan. Pretty much everything above 1080p requires multiple GPUs. To make matters worse, my 1440p monitor is 120Hz so that's like a knife in my bank account.

One reason I never bought it. It's a killer card for 1080p but the limited VRAM makes it limited on other resolutions. Imagine a 12GB 790 lol!!!

Most likely it would just be the 3GB 780 so still not going to be super great but at least it's better then 2GB.

yeah at the time of getting it I was at 1080p then I started down sampling and ended up buying a 2560x1440... It's great until I go into skyrim o.O

Yeah that might be a problem with only 2GB. Did you by chance get a Catleap monitor?

I was debating on selling my 7970 and picking up two gtx 770's. Maybe one 780 but I think it would be better with 2 770's. Because if its recommended that I go for 2 cards to power it id rather have SLI than cross fire. It still has its problems but it seems less problem some than cross fire. Also I may be willing to turn the settings down a bit but only one or MAYBE 2 dials down from max. One last think is my 7970 has coil whine ands actually fairly noticable since im water cooling and maybe if I picked up some 770's I wouldnt have that problem, but then again alot of it is luck of the draw.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 770's since they only have 2GB cards out now which you don't want at 1440p. If you are planning on buying now then check out the 4GB 670 since it's the same price as the 770 http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-Graphics-04G-P4-2673-KR/dp/B007Z3HZLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370287281&sr=8-1&keywords=4gb+670

Or they have this one which I currently have for a little more but it uses the 680 PCB

That should hold you over till 800 series or longer.

I believe it is Gigabyte that has it but you can get 4gb versions of the 770

3 GB on the 7970 is the ok for 1x 1440 panel but unless its just going to be a browser with facebook and no video/flash/anything multimedia then you will be giving up preformace for your main. It also depends on the game but any current title will use 2+ GB of VRAM on 1 monitor alone.
