I plan on running a windows 10 vm and I was wondering If I have 8GB of ram how much should I allocate to it?

When I set mine up, I just used 4gb. Ran perfectly fine.

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

At least 3GB. I just threw my EVO in my grandma's computer an I'm doing it that way. Almost done installing now. This way I get a full 8GB of RAM and the A6-3650's unleashed power.

As others have said, 4GB will be fine for the most part. I am running it as a daily driver on my desktop, and with 2 VMs running, Firefox (~4 tabs), Chrome (1 tab), and task manager running, I am consuming 5.6GB. Take the VMs off and it drops to just over 2GB.
