GTX 970 vs R9 290

Go to solution Solved by TheSLSAMG,

The GTX 970 is more powerful, produces less heat and consumes less power.

Hi

I've been looking at graphics cards and I've hit a dilemma, both the 970 and the 290 are both around the price I'm looking for and I can't see any good reason to buy one or the other.

Just wondering if you could help.

I'd go with the 970.

The card us new, and the drivers only get better.

^ Pretty much.

1080p the 970 wins, not by much, but enough to warrant getting one.

1440p+ their even or trading blows give or take whatever game your playing (some better, some worse)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

For the same price, I'd go for a 970, however if the 290 is cheaper it's still a good option.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
