G sync?

I get it now. Though why  buy a gsync monitor you would think people who have the money for g sync monitors would not use crappy gpus. Or just use a 144hz as that is the best for a smooth gaming session rather than a 60hz g sync monitor

 

That's why 4K G Sync monitors are a hot topic—It's still insanely hard to run games with high quality in 4K, even with the latest GPUs. If you use a G Sync monitor (or something similar), you could run the games with great quality settings at frame rates around 40 (according to Linus' latest video), while still having a smooth experience. If you tried to crank the game up to those settings without adaptive sync technology, you'd have massive tearing or be forced to use VSync, which would most likely limit you to 30fps (or even lower) and massive input lag.

I am confused :/ I am using two r9 290x cards and i never ever have g sync on as it limits my fps so i hate it. Why doesmost people with a nvida card seem to be obsessed with g sync? and g sync monitors. I am not an AMD fan or an Nvida i just get what is best for my budget at the time. Well what is so great bout g sync? 144hz monitors is what you want if you want a smoth session??

Gsync and Vsync are two different things.

You cannot have G-Sync on because G-Sync is specifically designed to work only for nVidia based cards. You are talking about V-Sync technology.

G Sync, AdaptiveSync and FreeSync are all technologies aiming to remove tearing without using a frame buffer like VSync does. That means the adaptive sync technologies allow for a smooth experience even at FPS lower than your monitor's standard refresh rate.

Oh i see but i have never had tearing my friend with an n vida card has it though. Also i never even had it with a crt monitor and then a cheap one then a mid range now my high range. Do you only get tearing on n vida cards?

..you're confusing how this works a lot...

 

If the graphics card renders frames faster than the refresh rate of the monitor, you will get tearing. Go with that concept, ignore brands. What G-sync does is change the refresh rate of the monitor to the frame rate of whatever the graphics card is rendering.

you need to have a g-sync monitor... It doesn't just magically activate

Tearing has nothing to do with what vendor of graphics card you use, or what monitor you use (with the exception of adaptive refresh rate monitors, of course). If you run an application without VSync and your GPU is unable to render a complete new frame faster than the next refresh, there will be tearing. That's just how monitors work(ed).

But when i had my 60hz monitor i ran all my games at 120frames or more some old games like 4000frames and i never had a problem?????

Some people aren't as perceptive to it, it depends where the splitting occurs if you'll even notice, and after a certain point the frame rate negates the refresh rate.

If you run a game at 120fps on a 60hz monitor there will be no tearing, because the GPU rendered two complete new frames, of which it will render the second without any artifacts.

Gsync is when The Monitor adjusts to your Games FPS, If the game is running at 37 fps the monitor is at 37 hz, If the game is at 69 fps the monitor is at 69 hz.

Vsync is when the game caps the FPS at 30 or 60 but can run at 38 or 90.

If you have a 60hz monitor, refresh rates that would result in no tearing would be 30 (however, this would feel stuttery instead), 60, 120, 180... etc.

 

In short, tearing will occur whenever your GPU has to deliver an un-finished frame to the monitor.

When they are out of sync,

It is when the monitor shows 2 or more frames at the same in the upper/lower part of the monitor.

Or as @linusforsell says.

Because when you dip under the refresh rate of your monitor it looks like crap.
