If i buy a GTX 770 now. do i only pay that 250 dollar difference to upgrade to a 780 within 90 days?

This is for a friend's rig. My rig already has a dual 780 setup.

I don't think it works that way. Could be wrong though.

Well from other posts it seems that its a pretty simple math equation off (price of new gpu) - (price of the gpu i have) + (tax and shipping)

now my next question is, can he step up from a amd gpu to a gtx card? the gtx780 isnt shipping from amazon yet, and niether is the 770 so he might just purchase the 7970 for now and step up to the 780

Step up must be made with EVGA cards only.

Everything you need to know about Step Up. http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

so how about a 680 to a 780 step up? amazon has a gtx680 for around 470 dollars. the gtx 780 is 650 dollars on evga website. so would the price difference be

650-470 +(tax shipping) = 180 + tax/shipping

or am i missing something here.

Again, don't think it works that way. I think step up is for new products that come out, not two existing products.

Step up is really simple. If a new product comes out within 90 days of you purchasing an existing product of the same type, you pay the difference to get the newest one.
