Hey peeps

I need a bit of help

I have a friend who is looking for a new notebook to replace her ageing DELL model. She has a budget of 1200AUD and I am having trouble recommending a competent laptop.

She isn't a "hardcore gamer" but she isn't a "casual gamer".

She wants to be able to play Skyrim, Dragon Age 1, 2 and 3, Witcher 1, 2 and 3 (albeit with low quality) and the Sims, in other words strategy and RPG games.

Edit: However she isn't as fussy as I am when it comes to tech

Can anyone help me out here?

Prime Out

Edit2: She wants to try it in person first if possible

Yeah, she wants to try it before she buys it first........ she just told me...... I'll add it to the OP

I wonder if anyone else is selling it?

I'll search around and see where she can try it and I'll get back to you

As the owner of a GE 60 I can say it is probably the best choice. That said mine is rather fat but still light. Might be an issue though if you are short on space in a backpack or something.

Desktop:  MSi GTX 680 Lightning - MSi Mpower Z77- i7 3770k - Asus Xonar DGX  - 16Gb Ares Ram - GX 750w PSU

Laptop: MSi GE 60 - GTX 765m - i74700MQ - 8gb ram

I saw this Gigabyte P15FV2 one for $1250 it has an i7-4710MQ, with a GTX850M while i doesn't look as good as the MSI GE60 Apache, the i7-4710MQ will be better for gaming than the i5-4200U.

Decent bet - http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming_Notebooks/55472-P15Fv2-850-4702S

The MSI's from what I have found don't have the best build quality.

Scorptec safe?

I've only used PCCG as far as e-tailers go, apart from that horrible spells in ED's PC and the like

Also she want's to trial the notebook first. Might see if ED's could get them in and than get them to price match?

I'd suggest something by Lenovo personally. Holy balls Lenovo is expensive down under... When i move there, definitely going to get my mum or one of my buddies to ship my new products over.

You're minimum wage is obscenely high isn't it though? It's like 17 something? At least i seem to remember it being that back when i had a girlfriend who lived there.

Mainly due to pricing - we're never really the cheapest as we operate a little differently to PCCG or MSY.

Yeah it's a bit complicated but in simple terms. Our minimum wage is high so our economy scales to fit so our prices also seem higher for the same thing overseas's. However due to taxing and lack of competition the price of the item is actually higher than it should be...

Ahh cool, well I'll see what she says but I have my doubts

I guess that's true. I mean here in Canada our taxes are a little high, but honestly i don't mind how high they are... I mean 13%/Dollar here in Ontario, is pretty good. Minimum wage for me is 10 something. So yeah. I don't know. I can understand prices being a little bit higher down-under because of the importing and shipping. As not a lot of PC components are made there.
