Amp Confusion

Hello, I am slightly confused about two amp the to me, are no different apart from a few minor aesthetic details, here are the two links for the products: https://www.mayflowerelectronics.com/shop/digital-to-analog-converters/objective2-odac-combo-with-rear-power/

http://www.jdslabs.com/products/48/o2-odac-combo/

Now I know the original "inventor" of these two particular amps allowed manufacturers such as JDS Labs and Mayflower Electronics to manufacture these but I am just unsure about it as I am about to make a purchase of the O2 + ODAC amplifier, if you could just confirm or correct me that would be a great help,

Cheers.

One has the power plug in the front and the other has it in the back. Otherwise, they're the same  :)

Cheers but you can customize the JDS labs model to have it on the back (why would you not do this?)

It was something that was done since the O2 was originally designed as a standalone portable amp (minus a dac) and the power plug placement made more sense for that use case. When the ODAC was designed it was designed to be a standalone dac and to fit into the battery cavity of the O2 and become a wall powered desktop dac/amp.

JDS labs is a more "pure" design in that it follows NwAvGuy's original design more closely, but Mayflower's design makes more sense because of what the ODAC/O2 combo is ultimately used for.

Either choice is good, but Mayflower's tends to make more sense for a desktop.

As far as the circuit goes they are identical, the only difference is where the plug is, you can get the mayflower customised also.

I believe Mayflower is cheaper, JDSLabs allows for custom engraving. Which is more important to you? (Ignoring the power plug location.)

AFAIK with JDS you have to buy the power plug... that's another $20 on top.

Mayflower's also got a version with front power plug, I think: https://www.mayflowerelectronics.com/shop/digital-to-analog-converters/objective2-with-odac/

Orange said it above. When you're planning on using it for portability (carrying it around), it's a bit easier if the power plug is in front. You'd fiddle with cables on 1 side only (no need to turn it around to access the back panel). When you're planning to use it as a desktop unit (static location), it's a bit easier and tidier on the desk if the power plug is in the back. 1 time setup plugging the power cable, and done. The power cable can go down the desk along with the cables of keyboard, mouse, LCD, etc.
