Asus MX239H Gaming?

UltraNeonGaming

Hey guys thanks for stopping by, I wanted to know how the Asus MX239H (23") would do in gaming?

I will game most of the time, but I will also watch a lot of videos and edit videos.

Il be playing FPS games like BF4 and others

I want to get an IPS panel because I already have a IPS monitor and I can't possibly go to TN

The monitor is 1080p 60hz, but I want to run games in as high settings as they go with good FPS using the ASUS GTX 970 STRIX

You can look up other specs but the monitor is pretty much:

IPS, 23", 5ms Gray to Gray response, 9ms input lag (I think I read it online, not a 100% sure about that tho)

So how will it do in gaming? Will I notice a lot of tearing, ghosting and artefacts or will it be manageable, considering that it's an IPS panel.

Thanks! :D

5ms is low enough you won't notice anything if you're used to it.

But will there be any tearing or ghosting?

How much?

Tearing yes, if you go above the refresh rate. Ghosting, no, I don't think so.

5ms is good but I mean @Lord Pantaloons tell him what you told me on low ms monitors...

How much tho? Can you give me an estimate since I have not much to refer to apart from my existing IPS

Usually none, I've only seen a slight amount of ghosting on one monitor.

Okay so it will be a good choice for my first pc build for mostly gaming and video watching/editing? :D

So long as you get one that's not DOA or jacked up, yes.

That monitor is one of the best for gaming (excluding 120-144hz monitors)

EDIT: Just to clarify, the MX279H uses a similar panel to the MX239H so display lag is comparable between them.

Yep, what matters is input lag

Between the input lag from your mouse and keyboard the render time of the game on your system and the communication between your system and the server not to mention your own reaction times worrying about a monitor having a 5ms response time rather than a 1ms response time is stupid. Not to mention that those "low" response time monitors ratings are for gray to gray which DOES NOT represent actual performance while doing anything, much less gaming. 1-2ms monitors are more like 5-8ms monitors and 5-8ms monitors are more like 10-16ms monitors and having slow or even average reflexes can turn all your effort in buying expensive monitors and high polling rate peripherals into wasted effort. It will leave you with over priced peripherals that make no difference and a monitor with color reproduction that's so horrible it might as well be black and white.

Stupid people continue to buy the crap though because numbers sell products and the marketing for this crap is excellent. You know what though? I say let them buy it, I don't care. It's their money that's being wasted and it's their experience that will suffer for it.

Yeah, I'm more worried about tearing and ghosting while seeing a fast moving object or looking around really fast which IPS monitors are prone to.
