So My motherboard only has 1 pcie X16 and the other one is X4 I was planning on Doing a 680 SLI and I heard you can buy pciex16 adapters is it worth it or should i just look for a new lga 1155 motherboard ?

What the adapter does is changes the physical size...say PCI-E X1 to PCI-E X16.

Key word: it changes the physical size. That's it. It still runs at X1 speed.

 

Your PCI-E X4 slot is already in the form of X16 length physically, so the adapter does nothing.

Converting PCI-E X16 (physically) --> PCI-E X16 (physically).

 

Even if you get an adapter, your PCI-E X4 slot still runs a X4 speed electronically (wired that way).

As the above users have already stated, you will need a new motherboard.
