Hello community, I know this is a very debatable question and noone can give a clear answer to which one is better.
But i have read that gaming perfomance between intel and amd is negligable around 5fps difference, unfortunatly noone tested it on 4k.
So my question is: for a gaming rig and maybe future programming rig which one will give me good perfomance at 4k gaming for the best amount of money?
If anyone has any feedback feel free to write in the comments below.

For intel cpu i was told to get the i7 4790 as for amd i have no idea.

Also any suggestions for motherboards are welcome too.
Last but not leasty is overclocking making a difference in games ? (CPU,GPU)

and if yes it is noticable?

But seriously, this topic has been discussed over and over again.

at 4K, a GPU will be much more of a bottleneck than your CPU, and most people can do some good gaming with a top of the line AMD.

It's really up to your budget. If you can afford intel, do it. If you wanna save a few bucks, go top of the line AMD.

Does the fact that AMD has no cpu on highest performance level tell you anything?

Are you actually gaming at 4k or is this thread just to start an argument?

Depends on how far you can stretch your wallet, and what you plan to do.

Synthetic benchmarks, ewww.

Find another benchmark that does not agree to it then?

It holds true in gaming as well, highest performing cpu are all Intel.

I would like to save as much as possible so i can get a better gpu and monitor

What is your budget for everything? That means computer parts, and any needed peripherals such as monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.

What specific games do you wish to play, and what programs and what uses?

main difference in perfomance between 4690k and 4790 is ?

it is only 100mhz and around 50 euros in price

Exactly! For a ridicolous amout of money you get .1 GHz, HT, and a locked multiplier!

Seriously, now. My point is that you shouldn't pay more for an i7 if you're just gaming. Games can only use up to 4 cores anyway, and you can overclock a 4690K.

around 2.5k-3k max for the hardware parts (including OS) (this was caluctated with and intel cpu)

now for peripherals around 400euros for mouse keyboard headset

for the monitor i am waiting for better 4k with 60hz to hit the market the current ones are pretty expensive

4k total

Xeons aren't for gaming...

Nobody said you can't play games with Xeon...

Games can use more than 4 threads, in case of BF4 and Crysis 3...at least.

Stay away from AMD in CPU category. Your best choice is the 4690k. There is more than just cores.

Yes, in some games,OCing the CPU makes a big difference.

For the motherboard, any z97 will do actually.

any difference between z97 and z97x?

There is no such thing as z97x.

The 'x' is a naming scheme from a specific manufacturer. I believe Gigabyte.

You're right. I said they aren't MEANT for gaming. They are server CPU's, so comparing them to AMD CPU's isn't really comparing apples to apples.

It does not matter what they were made for.

As long as they do perform.

At least, Xeon E3-1231 V3 does(still above the top AMD cpu).

The simple fact is Intel have the fastest processors. That doesn't mean every Intel chip is faster than every AMD chip, it just means that clock for clock and core for core, Intel's offerings are faster. Since most games can only address 2-4 cores, for gaming Intel has the advantage in terms of raw performance - although it may lose in terms of performance per dollar. Fortunately, CPUs make barely any difference to gaming performance even at 4K so it doesn't really matter what you go for as long as you avoid getting a potato. I shouldn't think an 8350 would bottleneck whatever GPU setup you have for gaming at 4K so in that sense it's largely irrelevant - GPU is what's going to matter the most.
