Hello,

I have a 100i, MSI Z97 gaming 7 mobo, and 6gb DDR3 1333mhz. I want to OC my CPU so it keeps up with my 7950 CFX. I hope to do 4.8ghz.
What voltage is recommended? (I know all cpus are different). Also what ring frequency, should it be the same as the cpu ratio? ie 48 cpu, 48 ring?

Also what's the safe voltage?

Thanks all!

I think 4.8ghz is too much... You'll be lucky if it hits 4.8 IMO.

CPU: Intel Core i7 860 @ 3.5ghz / CPU Cooler: Corsair H60i / Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 /

RAM: 16gb 4x4gb Corsair Vengeance LP / GPU: EVGA GTX 780Ti / PSU: Corsair AX850 / OS: Windows 8.1 /

Storage: Boot Drive 128gb Crucial M4 SSD, 1.5TB WD Green / Case: Ultra Defender II White /

Monitors: 2x 23" Acer G235H's / Peripherals: 2013 Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Keyboard, 2013 Razer Deathadder Mouse /

@Valhalla

You won't hit 4.8 at 1.3v, there's absolutely no way. Most 4690's average around 4.4ghz @ about 1.23/1.26v. My friend is able to hit 4.8ghz @ 1.41v using his custom water cooling loop. Even then, he's still seeing temps above the 90's which is not recommended. He's now at 4.7ghz at 1.3v.

Be happy if you're able to hit 4.5ghz at a decent voltage like 1.25v.

Okay, What is a good speed, and safe voltage? And what about the ring ratio?

Under 1.3v on air.

Okay. I have a h100i... Also what is the ring ratio?

And where do I change the voltage on MSI boards?

Never owned an MSI board so I'm afraid I can't help you with that. I'm sure there's plenty of guides online though. Just make sure your cpu temps don't exceed 75c while stress testing. Low 70's is considered to be warm, anything above 80 is hot!

I found it. Can I damage the CPU if I don't go over 1.3V or 80C? Also what's CPU ring?

Are you referring to the cache ratio? Just leave it at stock since you'll just run into stability issues (most people don't touch the cache clock) Instead, focus on your cpu multiplier and vcore. Regarding temps, everyone has a different comfort zone. Mine happens to be below 75c. Honestly, I wouldn't risk going over 80c whilst stress testing.
