Hey,

I am pretty new to the community but I have always watched LinusTechTips for reviews on hardware

It is the first time that I will be building a system by myself and I'd like to ask you guys if you have an opinion, suggestion or anything to add to my build.

I will be using my computer generally for gaming, school, programming and perhaps a bit of streaming.

  • be quiet! Dark Rock 2
  • ASUS HD7850-DC2T-2GD5-V2
  • AMD FX-8350
  • Aerocool Strike-X CM 600W
  • Aerocool XPredator X3 Devil Red Edition
  • ASUS DRW-24B5ST
  • ASRock 990FX Extreme3
  • Seagate ST1000DM003 1 TB or WD 1TB HDD
  • Corsair 8 GB DDR3-1866 Kit

After I have seen the review on the ASUS Sabertooth Z77 I also doubt to use that motherboard due the thermal armor and great features of the board but then I'd have to go with an Intel processor, which could be great due the release of the 4th generation CPU's their prices on the 3th generation might go down.

Also I have some doubts on the CPU Cooler, it seems heavy and quite large to put in my case and I will have to use LP ram so that it still fits under the gigantic cooler.

If you have any other build that you might be better than this one and still is below or a bit above the €1000 mark then I'd appreciate it if you posted them here :)

Kind regards,

Pruxis

Add a Samsung 840 128 GB there, switch the Dark Rock 2 to a Noctua NH-D14 unless you really want black fans haha. Everything else seems to be pretty good with that build, I think you could fit in there a 7950 though. Also both of those coolers should fit in to your case just fine, I just don't know if the RAM will hah.

On Amazon.co.uk, this build would be 1060 euros. Depends how much you want to spend (:

Look around from different countries which have the best prices and cheap shipping. For example amazon ships to Finland for around 12 euros only and a german shop like hardwareversand ships for about 22 euros but prices are even lower than amazons.

Check the parts from http://geizhals.de/eu/ to find the cheapest shop in Europe. Shops I can recommend are Hardwareversand, Mindfactory, amazon.de and in England Scan, Amazon.co.uk, Ebuyer. Let us know what you decide(:

That store is so cheap I can get an Intel i5 4th generation with an Asus 660 GTX and an additional SSD for the same price o.O INCLUDING SHIPPING

if i were you , i'd change the cpu to a fx 8320 unless it's a sub 10Euro price difference.

i'd personally get a sandisk ready cache ssd instead , since ssd's get slow as they get filled & 128gb isn't really allot of space. if i were going to get a ssd used for storage , i'd get at least a 240gb one so i won't loose much speed compared to a 128gb one.

would stick with the 7850 tbh...( unless you mean 660ti)

if you are saving a decent amount of money i would stick with the 8350

it is this one : http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=66385&agid=1156

And the benchmarks of the i5 3th / 4th generation are way better than the 8350 though.

Well, i5 3570k is great for gaming and I recommend it. But you may wanna hear other peoples opinion on that, seeing as the new consoles are going to use AMD hardware so games are optimised for them, which means better performance on AMD's side. I really don't know how true this is, but I'd still go with the 3570k

Well as the i5 4670k is the same price (even 1 euro cheaper) I'm going for that one :)

I didn't catch your budget. It's hard to figure out what's not balanced without that since a build should revolve first and foremost around the budget.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Aerocool Xpredator X3 Devil Red Case

Compared to my previous setup that I had in mind :

Intel i5 4670k

Aerocool Xpredator X3 Devil Red case

looks good, however i would go for a small liquid cooler, the big air coolers are ok but can be big, ugly and use up room in your case.

I used to always be an air cool guy until early this year i got a FX6300 and a Zalman LQ 315, amazing combo of CPU and cooler. you can get a thicker rad for the LQ series which you might need for the 8 core cpu, if your just using for gaming a 6 core would be fine.

Nice m/board and make sure the memory is in the recommended venders listings in the manual (which you can download)

just remember the more cores and clock speed the more heat you produce.

^^^ thats the LQ 315, the 320 is the thicker rad.

hope this helps and you can always get a liquid cooler later date if required.

got to love Asus components

How about the Corsair Hydro Series H100i I could go for it and have a 120 gig SSD for the first month or so, and then when my paycheck from my holiday job comes in every saturday I can start to expand my storage :)

I heard good things about them, also that sometimes a pump noise, but i think thats more the H100 and not so the H100i

what ever cooler you get i cant garentee if it will work well with your system as everyone has different cases, fans, hardware etc.

I looked a long time at liquid coolers and choose the LQ series because everyone else was going for the corsair coolers and i don't like having common things.

just look at video reviews on Linus utube videos and go from what you like. all i can say is the stock cooler is not much use, its best to invest in a good cooler that works for your needs.

got to love Asus components
