The jump from 770 to 970 isn't big enough imo to warrant buying one. Saying that, given the fact that I'm still using hardware from 2011 you might disagree with my upgrade timetable a bit.

Edit: Wait you don't currently have a 770? I may have misread your post. If you don't already have a 770 then get the 970.

Yeah i'm rocking a gts 250, is the difference that much?

are you serious? here is the closest i can get you to give you an idea of the performance difference, the GTS 450 much better than your GTS 250, and the GTX 680 is slightly slower than a 770...here is what comes up:

something along those lines, yes.

The 970 also consumes less power and overclock better and comes with cool new features...better for SLI as well (quieter, cooler...better) if you consider overclocking it's more than 30%...more like 40%.

You should stretch it for the 970 if you play at 1080P that way you'll be good for a couple years maxing out games at 1080p...there are already many games out there that a single 770 wont run on max details at 1080P 60FPS.

Consider eating Kraft dinner this month it's worth it!

Alright will probably go with 970, before I go ahead which brand should I go with, seems like alot of cards are oos atm.

the one you prefer, they are all good cards...don't overpay for a ''premium'' edition card, go with what is available and at a good price...MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, EVGA they are all good.

If you tell me where you at and what site you shopping on i could make a better recommendation.

I'm also on a 2500k will I be bottlenecked by only being able to use PCI Express 2.0?

no, not at all...PCIe 2.0 16X is perfectly fine for any modern GPUs..this is a powerful CPU as well even by today's standards...you are clear.

i think one of the best GTX970´s at the moment is....

Gigabyte GTX970 G1-gaming.

highest clocked out of the box, comes with backplate, 8+6 power plug, and triple fan windforce cooler.

For insane overclocking.

i am maybe looking at one of those my self at the moment.

I got some big plans ;)

haha, maybeee maybeee..

But i´m going to wait for a week or so, to look what AMD is going to do with theire 290 prices.

I dont think that AMD will launch the 300 series any soon.

So maybe they are going to massively drop prices on the 290´s.

Since im on 1080p, the card price will be the dealbreaker.

The GTX970 performs better on 1080p so i will keep that in mind definitely.

They are now pretty similar priced....

yes...but keep in mind that if you have any intentions to maybe go dual graphics down the road having the much more energy efficient 970's instead will be a lot easier...also the 970's ship with so much cool features now that AMD can only dream about...the 970 should be priced much higher IMHO...i think if anything nvidia partners will slowly raise the prices a little bit on the 970's....
