OK heres the story , A year ago [about] I built this pc with an AMD 7850k a ASUS 2gd5 7770 and 16gbs of ram

Well I wanted to build myself a watercooled pc [instead of building them for ppl at my pc shop where I work]  So I started planning

MY final option was a 4790k and a r9 290x both w/ced

then the Haswell-E came out and I started thinking about getting a 5820k instead, etc etc ppl on here talked me out of it

So I bought an EVGA G21000 and a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe [cause those are the only parts that are compatible with anything]

Well now Maxwell came out and I am so confused on what to buy

Anyway Just wanted to have a few opinions on what GPU I should buy

I like that gtx 970 as it destroys the r9 290x, but I heard AMD is releasing the 3xxx series on the 25th [can anyone confirm this]

so idk if I should wait for the 390 or go with the 970!? I'm not a fanboy so idgaf about brand I just want performance/$ and I've found AMD delivering that

so now its up to u [also I will be SLI/Crossfiring the gpu with another one in a few months]

thanks and sry 4 long post

and if any of u care here is my semi-decided build

get the 970, if you wait for the 3xx series, you'll be waiting for Nvidia to answer and the cycle will go on

<$500: the gtx970, period, nothing can beat it, nothing as of now, and maybe even 2 or 3 months down the line.

but if you can squeeze in another $50~$60, u can get the gtx 980, which pretty much blow all the other GPUs out of the water, maybe with the exception of extreme overclocked gtx 780ti and also extreme overclocked the amd r9 295x2, but those 2 cost a lot more, so i'd say in that $550~$560 price range, the gtx 980 blow everything out of the water.

isurvivorz....You can find a factory overclocked non reference r9 290x like the PCS+ for well under 500 that would be more powerful than a gtx 970, so what you said isn't accurate. Although the 970 is still cheaper.
