Hi

I'm just looking for some opinions on what to get.

I'm into web design and small bit of programming and use photoshop the odd time as well and just wondering if I would be better off with a Macbook air or Macbook pro?

or should i just build a desktop pc?

I have a laptop at the minute but it starts to struggle and slow down whenever i have dreamweaver open and a few webpages

soo what would you guys recommend??

Build a desktop, man. You just said you were on a limited budget, best bang for your buck will come from a desktop. If portability is key, however, I'd get the Pro and dual-boot windows on it.

Build a tiny system in an Intel NUC and use the VESA mount to connect it to a GeChic MiniHDMI, USB powered Monitor (http://www.gechic.com/index.htm)

Is this really practical based on what he said or did you just want to recommend something because it exists, and no one else would recommend it?

There, right there is your answer. If you don't utilize the portability of your current laptop why pay extra for that convenience on your next system? A desktop will give you much better performance per dollar than a laptop along with a longer relevant lifespan.

In regard to the Mac vs Windows (vs Hackintosh?) then you need to ask yourself what programs you use/intend to use. If the main programs are indeed Mac exclusive, that's pretty much your answer right there. If not, or if you just sometimes use Max exclusive programs then a self built desktop again offers much better performance per dollar and even the potential to run those Mac exclusive programs on the same hardware.

By getting a desktop you can get yourself a good sized montior and that will make a major improvement on time management as you can see more on one screen. Also by buying a desktop you can get yourself a decent build that you can add to over time if you wish.

(but you follow my build... don't get the 5800! its a hand me down from my dads PC due to lack of funds for a GPU... its been replaced next year!)

Im a graphic designer/videographer/photographer so i am going intel/nVidia.

Just my five cents.

(because Adobe supports nVidia more than AMD in certain parts of their programs)

though seeing from the fact you have money for a macbook in general you have a budget of little over 1k which is a good budget for whatever you doing. so are you using your computer as a workstation and if so what is it for would help allot to help you get what you looking for(and also the added fact you not really looking for portability widens option margin)
