Question about USB Ports on monitors

ZeferiniX
Go to solution Solved by FizzyFantom,

1. How is the USB device able to communicate with the MoBo if it's connected to the monitor?

Does it go like monitorUSB -> DisplayPort -> GPU -> MoBo? or since there are 2 USB Ports in the monitor, do you need to connect 1 to the rear I/O of the MoBo using USB-to-USB cable and connect the USB device to the other monitorUSB port so that the USB device will work?

Yes, you need to use a USB cable (usually a USB A to USB B cable) to connect the monitor to the motherboard. This is basically a USB hub built into the monitor and it is independent from the rest of the monitor (except for power).

I hope that helps :)

Before we go to my questions, I researched about ASUS ROG Swift and got curious about USB ports on monitors.

I did some googling and they just said it can be used to connect, well, USB devices. I just can't find a satisfying answer for my questions.

So here are my questions(sorry if these are dumb questions but I can't find a satisfying answer in the internet):

2. For what is that Uplink USB? Go technical if possible, I tried googling but it's showing how-to-setup results or ethernet/3G/4G/Wi-Fi uplinks :(

@FizzyFantom nailed it. That's why I've always found the ports on monitors a bit...pointless.

USB 3.1 C should be able to transfer everything. Data, power, USB...having one cable that small for it all is a cable management dream come true.

Good question and answer, i was wondering this myself

And here I thought I'm the only one lost here since I'm always using laptops and Monitors w/ USB Ports are not common here in my area, not even in workplaces.

uhh wait, in simpler terms, I need to connect the Uplink USB Cable(the one in the pic) from the monitor to the MoBo before I can use the 2 USB 3.0 ports. Correct?

Edit:

Never mind. I thought those letters in USB A to USB B are variables, did some googling and found out it's a type of USB. My bad. Thanks for clearing things :D
