Wireless Headset Options

Go to solution Solved by Borei,

Well I see this thread is going nowhere.

@cluelessgenius I think I'm going to stick with the ASTRO Gaming A50 Audio System with USB Tx. Despite its shortcomings, I at least know that it's comfortable, it has bass (even if it can't always be controlled), it sounds good overall (at least to me), it's updated from time to time with firmware and structural redesigns, and the company has overall been quite good to me with courtesy and putting my needs above sales. Some of that is more than I can say about the SteelSeries H Wireless Gaming Headset, despite its many features.

I have an ASTRO Gaming A50 Audio System with USB Tx. I'm currently sending it in for repairs, but while I'm at it, I have a possible option of getting a refund. The other headset I'm considering is the SteelSeries H Wireless Gaming Headset.

My needs are audio and mic for gaming (PC and console), movies, music, general YouTube watching, and Twitch streaming. The headset must be wireless as I often find I need to move around in the middle of conversations or listening to things, due to physical ailments. As such, a mod mic or desktop mic is not a realistic option. It must also be comfortable enough to be worn all day. I have a 24" head in terms of wearing an XL sized BARMAH leather hat, and I have ears sized big enough to match. Head shape seems normal enough.

That said, which option is going to give me the best quality and/or value? Is there a third option I should be considering?

SteelSeries Wireless, unless you decide to go PC only, then go with the Vengeance 2100.

well now im in the market too would love to here some input and how OP is gonna decide. as i get the 930 use conventional 2.4ghz astro use 5.8ghz wich makes for less interference und steelseries has that weird channel switching technology to get rid of interference. so as i see it astro and steelseries pull ahead?

Would you mind going into a bit more detail? I did watch Linus' reviews of all 3 products, but what's your reasoning?

The SteelSeries Wireless is the best option for both PC and console compatibility, however if you were to go purely PC on this headset decision the Vengeance 2100 would be your best bet, it's the best wireless headset for PC only and it has one of the best wireless headset mics while still being greatly comfortable.

I would think so. Logitech claims the G930 uses two separate 2.4GHz antennae for a combined 5GHz, but I don't think it works quite like they were expecting. Plus, I would imagine channel switching would also lead to more disconnects, dropping off and picking up when doing so for the sake of getting less interference. Then again, perhaps it's just more of a double-edged sword.

so really what you are saying is that astro is the one to rely on?

The real answer is wireless headphones still aren't good enough to replace wired ones. Now slap yourself silly for considering a wireless gaming headset and buy some ATH-M50Xs and an antlion mod mic 2.0 to match.

I'm saying it depends on your living situation. The G930 has worked out for many people. Just not me.

As for the ASTROs, they are pretty great from my experience, but I've never tried the H Wireless before.

Thank you, for that completely, unhelpful, inconsiderate post.
