What is better for server hosting

Okay so, i want to host a minecraft server and im going to use an old computer, i have 2 i can use. I can use an old windows xp with a singlecore pentiom 4 with 4 gigs of ram OR i can use a newer wondows vista with an into core 2 duo with only 2 gigs of ram, i tryed putting the 4 gigs into thr one with the core 2 duo but it dosnt fit, witch one should i use to host the server?

dual core vista

a vanilla server uses less than 1GB of ram for a couple players, 2GB should be enough for you and a few friends.

Probably the dual core... minimum for a server is a dual core cpu and 1gb of ram  for afew players (even though this says 2gb)

Core runs circles around netburst.

 

Throw a lightweight Linux on it and it should work wonders for you.
