How to avoid PayPal Chargebacks.

Hello forums,

Just wanted to know how I can avoid someone using PayPal chargeback If I have sold something on the forums.

I read awhile ago that someone could do that, and I'm a little worried.

Hello forums,

Just wanted to know how I can avoid someone using PayPal chargeback If I have sold something on the forums.

I read awhile ago that someone could do that, and I'm a little worried.

I don't know but I have a story to tell about it. I was selling an iphone at the time on ebay. I sold it for $300, now I wasn't old enough at the time to have a paypal account in my name. So I used a family members. I sold the phone to the guy in california, he claimed he never received the item but I already had withdrawn the money. Well he done a paypal chargeback which put the account in a negative balance of $300. Luckily I had insured the item for $350. I filed a claim with ups saying it was never delivered. I got the $350 from ups, then said screw it to paypal.

The guy had gotten the phone but I was young and didn't know about having signatures required during delivery. The person I used paypal through was filing bankruptcy so we just let it go. I got $650 for a $300 phone. He got his money back and the phone. We both won and paypal lost. So yes it is a real possibility, I have learned to insure items for MORE than they're worth and get a signature required during delivery every time no matter what the item or how much money it cost to prevent things like this from happening

Make them sign for it and insurance if you'd like, also make them fill out invoices / you fill invoices out when you sell things describing what it is what condition it's in etc.

Isn't it true that you can't be charged back when it's a "Gift"?

Yeah, I read that online, I might get the buyer to send the money as a gift.

Make sure the address on their account is verified and ship the item with signature delivery confirmation. That'll alleviate almost all possible issues.

Separate issue but If you are the buyer, never send payment as a gift to avoid PayPal fees.
