Yes, but you should really get a decent PSU as I'm assuming thats a crappy OEM one.

that would be really close. at stock speeds you could be seeing 250-300 watt power draw on a heavy load. if you overclocked or stressed the gpu, the PSU would do something nefarious melt.

You know, it's not that much about the wattage, but it's about the actual PSU quality.

350W would probably be able to handle a 970 (but I would never recommend that), but the thing is that most 350W power supplies on the market are from no-name manufacturers and won't even be able to output those 350W.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. You don't have to buy like a 400$ power supply, a CX500 or CX500M from Corsair is going to be just fine!

I would probably lean towards getting an upgrade for the PSU, a 970 will be great anyways :)

Any Corsair CX or RM series, or any EVGA G1 or G2 series. (greater than 500w for a single one, greater than 650w if you may want to SLI). Get whichever is cheaper (The EVGA G2 750 is an EXCELLENT choice, but its also a bit pricey--hence the CX/G1 recommendation -- they're not as good, but they're quite a bit cheaper).

I guess the other thing I forgot, is that a 350 watt psu likely does not even have pci-e plugs to begin with, or enough amps on the 12v rail.

I have £400 to spend on a GPU and PSU, So enough for 970 and a psu. I could wait 1 more week and get the 980 +  a psu but im not sure on the performance gain, and i do want a 4k monitor.

If you want a decent PSU upgrade that can potentially handle 2-way SLI GTX 970 then get the EVGA G2 750W. If you plan on sticking to a single cards then you could even get away with a Corsair CX430M, CS450M or CX500M

Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

3 and 4-way SLI are just stupid... as the scaling is terrible, and AFAIK the scaling hasn't improved enough to warrant 4-way certainly.

Two-way SLI is really the way to go and then rather than going three/four-way SLI just upgrade to newer GPUs.
