Good evening,

I was wondering if there was significant difference between the performance of DDR4 and DDR3 when it comes to video rendering. I was thinking about upgrading to the 5820k and X99 with 32GB of DDR4 for my workstation and was wondering if it was going to be worth the significant cost. If anyone has any cinebench numbers which compare DDR4 to DDR3 apples to apples that would be much appreciated.

Current System:

2600k

16gb  1600MHz

Gtx 770

The CPU itself is going to benefit more than the RAM.

Get 16GB and 5930k.

There is very small next to no difference in performance between current DDR3 and DDR4. BUT! If you go X99 platform you MUST get DDR4 and you can render like a madman with a help of 5820k.

Also we dont know what is your current workstation so we cant advie you on if you should upgrade or not.

By the way there is Linus video on DDR3 vs DDR4.

yes i don,t have time to provide you with benchmarks but for programs that use RAM as buffer there's a very noticeable performance increase with DDR4...we will even see much faster DDR4 down the road...but the most benefit will come from the behemoth cpu...
