i5 4690k Overclocking

Si i was wondering if my Cooler master Hyper 212 evo would be enough to OC this i5 CPU, to be happy i want AT LEAST 4.2 Ghz overclock, maybe ramp the voltage to 1.2? i dont know if voltage increase will be nessesary for a light OC. But anyways, if you dont think the hyper 212 is enough, recommend a cooler at around the same price (+/- 10$)

I didn't know the 1690k existed. Either way, the 212 EVO is enough for moderate OCs.

it's enough. OC using the stock voltage and work your way starting there and get to 4.2Ghz. If you got BSOD maybe bump up the voltage a bit.

Yes, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 is plenty for a 4.2Ghz OC.  You might even be able to go higher, just remember that every chip is different, and you have to go into overclocking with an open mind.

 

I have an i5-4670k, and I tested it with a Hyper 212 EVO, you can check out my Review With Statistics to get an idea of the performance of the 212 EVO.

 

Another thing to keep an eye on is the Be quiet! Shadow Rock 2.  It is a better and more attractive CPU Cooler than the Hyper 212 EVO, and it often goes on sale from NCIXUS.com for $30.

The 212 EVO is a good cpu cooler good enough for moderate overclocking

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I assume you mean 4690k. And yes, the 212 will do a fine job as long as you don't have insane ambient temps or overdue it with the voltage.

i live in a mountain, 8200 feet up in the skys, it gets quite chilly here :)

what's a 1690k?

if you meant 4690k then it would be enough, you should hit 4.3ghz easily but each chip is different so it may or may not reach the speed. 

i recommend getting this if your overclocking
