Now, the names John for starters i'm ok with computers but as for gaming my rig is comprised of an

NVIDIA GeForce GTX ACX cooled 760 2GB

intel i5 3550 3.30 (not sure about how fast it can get or if it's a locked cpu) any help is appreciated ofc

8gb of ram and still the geforce eperience says my rig uses 7.89 of it so... yeah?

I believe those three things in a comp is the juice for gaming if not i will be harshly told otherwise haha

Any upgrade suggestions is welcomes with open arms and i'd love to talk about anything cause heck still young and want to learn more

Thank you

depends on how much money you have. Your CPU will do fine for gaming, because it's an i5. It doesn't need to be a 3570K. 3770K, 4670K, 4690K, 4770K, or a 4790K. I've even seen i3s do well.

Your GPU is fine also.

A 980 is nowhere near the budget this guy has looking at his part selection. A gtx 970 would be a great choice however.

He never specified a budget, so he could have between $100-$1000...

For the CPU: It's not a 3550K so it's a locked one. (Locked: not overclockable / unlocked: overclockable) There is always room for upgrades here since an i5 doesn't ave hyperthreads.

For the RAM: For me personally 16GB is a min (but for most 8Gb is enough) And yea, your system never sees the full 8/16/32/... GB of ram. So don't worry about that.

For the GPU: 760 is a nice GPU, 2GB of GDDR is the very min for modern games. Maybe upgrading to a 3 or even 4 GB one might be a must in the future.

Also, the motherboard is an important factor too, as it's important for your CPU overclocking.

Besides that, an SSD upgrade is always a good thing.

Cheers!

A GTX 970 would be a good upgrade for graphics. A 120GB or larger SSD for a boot drive is also very nice (some consider it essential for a decent PC).

Maybe a new cooler if you don't have one? Hyper 212 EVO is a good budget one.

I chuckled a bit after reading that... :P

@ OP. I do agree with this, however.

8GB will suit a caming rig jsut fine (and you won't see much benefit going past that) howeverm id it's a multimedia PC, you will very likely benefit form 16, or even 32 gigs.

The 760 is a mid-range card. It's powerful, but don't expect to be running newer games on ultra, and 4k will be in incredible struggle, if at all possible.

Why? Aren't the transistors on your mobo an important factor on OC'ing your CPU? And a non "K" cpu is indeed a locked one? Correct me if I'm wrong pls.

The flow of telling him that he had a locked processor, and the telling him to search for a good overclocking board just made me laugh... :P The post was completely valid.

I'm going to go to bed, however. It is entirely possible that my brain is formulating complete nonsense at this point! haha.

If so, please disregard my ramblings!

I might also add that i have an asrock z77 extreme 4 MB and from talking with a person, asrock's motherboards are not very good. Which is why i've been looking into upgrading a little more to a better MB (asus to be specific, CPU, GPU etc.

I have also looked and thought about W-8.1 pro since it's the most relateable windows to W7 plus i was thinking there might be a chance for a free W9 upgrade if it's good and all. Like i said i'm ok with computers but as far as putting one together and the basics beyond that you would lose me.

Last i was thinking of going sli with the 760/ can the ACX cooled one sli with the nvidia reference one or no b/c i have the feeling no, but i can go with the gtx 980 n' or wait for a possible 980ti (sli is optional) and if i were to go with either one, what would be a good rig to surround such a beasty GPU                    This would be for Gaming, Multimedia, Editing, Work, School etc. :) i understand that 3-4 of them are the same haha, but mostly for gaming am i right?

Again thank you all for the help much appreciated :)

As for Budget, i'd say eh $850-$1300
