Preventing static electricity

Shayannike.ps3

How should I prevent static electricity without using any anti-static wrist-rap since I want to disassemble my laptop and replace the fan.

Please provide all the harmful risk that will damage my computer.

Find something metal and discharge yourself before going into your computer. Thats what I always do and its worked fine for me -- I've built and/or repaired dozens of computers on carpet.

Dont rub your feet on a carpet at the same time. Seriously you have to be stupid to do any harm

i know it might seem noob(ish) but if i build mine in a woden floor would it harm the compunents/computer?

no

Well, you could possibly scratch the case, but other than that, no.

Rub your feet all over your carpet, get a Van de Graaff generator and hold onto it.

Then stop playing around and use an anti-static wrist strap and/or touch a plugged in power supply.

just play it easy and get the wrist wrap and put it on your ankle like lord linus does during his build logs.

that's playing it safe.

Playing it easy is just not bothering with that and just making sure you're not wearing socks and are building your machine on a hard surface. Both ways are just as effective.

Touch a PSU that is switched off but plugged in to discharge yourself from any static electricity, or just any other metal object.

If your in a high humidity area you have nothing to worry about. In a dry climate just discharge yourself

Grab a grounded piece of metal (i.e. a chair) for a few seconds before starting work. Also, don't rub your feet on a carpet while having somebody rubbing a balloon on your head, that's just asking for it.

You'd be pretty hard pressed to kill something with static. What i did was i had the case sitting next to my motherboard on  the box, i just discharged onto the case which sat on a wooden table.

Everything worked fine, your mileage may vary

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Touch a metal faucet, don't work on carpet and you'll be fine.

Touch metal to ground yourself, I use this method and it works everytime I work with computer hardware.
