Possible upgrade to 970?

Hakei

I'm currently thinking about upgrading from my old GTX470 to a new 970. My main concerns are whether my CPU will become too much of a bottleneck, or if it will do fine. I'm currently using a i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz.

Do I need a new CPU before upgrading my graphics card, or will it be a sufficient upgrade until I can get a new CPU?

Hi, feel free to upgrade. Your CPU is not bottleneck at all.. in fact it will last you for at least another 2 generations (for gaming).

Upgrade, the 2500k is still a great cpu, not much behind the 4690k to be honest.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

just overclock it a bit. it can go a bit faster than 3.3 no problem, you could do a 4.6ghz 40% oc easy if it feels a bit slow.

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

I'm currently running stock cooler, so my first step would be getting a new one before I begin tinkering with overclocking :P Any recommendations for a good CPU cooler? I'm thinking about getting a water cooler, but I haven't played around with those..

well 2500k's run pretty cool, so anything with water in it or 4+ heatpipes should be able to keep it cool enough.
