Should I buy a third 780 ti now that they're going for pretty cheap? I have a 1200W PSU so that shouldn't be an issue.

If for gaming, then no. three way SLI is stupid for gaming.

No. There is minimal improvement over 2-way SLI, and in some games it will actually perform worse.

That's some speculation there. We will see when nvidia officially announces weather or not other cards besides the 9xx series will have DX12 support.

Well not as much , but I'm very sure previous series will support directx 12. If you seen the developer stream from Microsoft about directx , you'll notice they talk about how they optimized their api run across multiple cores with less cpu overhead. More efficiently etc.

Edit : here is another article Nvidia confirming...

Fud is not nvidia LOL. That said never has a new DX level worked with old GPU tech so historically speaking you are wrong. That said nvidia offering value for money with the 9xx series cards in an industry first so maybe.

I didn't say they were Nvidia just that they had a talk with fud.

I'm aware that traditionally old series haven't carry over the new features and I also know the gtx 9xx series is awesome with many many features. However my point is and somewhat quite obvious is that Kepler and Fermi are very capable for directx 12. The new api isn't so much a reformat on the gpu side but it's an overhaul optimization that allows the api to effectively run on multiple cores specially 4+. There is no reason why Kepler shouldn't work with directx 12. Look even Xbox one is benefiting from directx 12 and that sure doesn't have Maxwell.

Understand what I am saying?

No, I wouldn't do that. VRAM will be an issue in the near future. I never believed this would happen to 3GB GPUs but now I'm pretty sure about this. So 4GB is going to be the sweet spot from now on. 980s have the capacity to take advantage of all the VRAM they have. Selling the Tis and getting these would be the better move.

Xbone is working on AMD hardware not nvidia. Typically AMD offers expandability and does not try an lock down platforms and architectures and like nvidia. It would stand to reason that nvidia will force a hardware upgrade for anyone whom is not using maxwell if they want to run modern games on the DX12 closed standard.

What resolution are you gaming at? Also, if you have the money and don't want to upgrade for the next 3 years (beware of vram depending on the resolution) go for it. You will get better performance in most games (aka every AAA title)

Right, that might be possible but very absurd for what the Kepler especially gtx 780 are capable of doing. It's more reasonable them allowing at least Kepler and Fermi. Kinda how gsync is supported with various version of gtxs.
