Hi Everyone,

I was hoping to get some feedback to help streamline my upcoming build that I would like to make. I want to start planning now so by the time Black Friday/Cyber Monday rolls around I get the parts for the same if not cheaper prices. Anyhow, I plan to use the build for the following purposes -

  • 1080p Max/Ultra whatever you wanna call it Gaming.
  • Occasional Streaming
  • Occasional Server Hosting (I run game servers every so often to play games - i.e. Private Game Servers - Meaning hosting SQL Server, VMware and or other needed applications)
  • Multitasking w/ Photoshop and other apps. (Not on a professional level as I know IPS Panels are more suitable for that.)
  • Less Likely Occasions - Video Rendering via After Effects/Sony Vegas.

Here is my current saved part list at Pc Part Pickerhttp://pcpartpicker.com/user/striker1010/saved/3jNYcf

A few notes-

  1. I know the build uses GTX 970 and at 1080p gaming it really isn't necessary. However, I rather get a 970, especially at the great price it's offered at and I want to have high Fps starting now so that a year/year half from now the card can still manage playing games at good quality.
  2. I eventually plan to SLI the 970 down the line probably after a year and a half (As such, I want to make sure the MOBO in the list will allow for sufficient space as I know it is SLI capable.)
  3. I may have gone overboard on the 4790k as I don't plan to overclock it but again I rather purchase parts no to "future proof" but rather not needing to upgrade for the next 2-3 years.

I started off with a budget of $2,000 because I was initially planning on getting 780 but I am very very happy with getting a 970 instead. As such, the build price went down and so I rather be around the $1800 point which will allow me to save where I can so I can divert the money towards something nice like a mechanical keyboard. However, if you want to recommend a part that is worth the price/performance/value which will increase the build price that's fine.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated as always. Thank You!

I would bump up the ram to 16gb just because of the server requirements. It'll help. I'd take a look at Phanteks' cases because they should be better than the 500 and cheaper as well and I'd change the psu to the better EVGA Supernova 750W G2. Much better quality for not much more in price.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

@Dimwitted

Thanks, I think 16gb will be a good idea as well. I looked at the Phantek cases, honestly, their new mini itx case looks AMAZING. Wasn't too impressed with their Full Tower cases though 1. I rather have mid tower than full and 2. prices were on par or more than the Corsair 500r.
