Hi! Made a wrong post in the wrong forum. So, I've been watching some of LTT videos and the builds, but I would really want your input for the PC build.

1. Budget & Location

Well, firstly, I'm living in Hong Kong, which, some of you may know, is full of small, cramped living spaces. I've uploaded a few pictures of where I plan to put the PC.

(either 1. somewhere one of these arrows are pointing. Sorry for the mess, I live with my little cousin.

post-142369-0-71439000-1411184750_thumb.
or 2. lower right side. The pc in the pictures will be gone when I have the new pc.)
post-142369-0-59653900-1411184770_thumb.post-142369-0-75363300-1411184775_thumb.post-142369-0-03831500-1411184781_thumb.post-142369-0-54744400-1411184786_thumb.

My budget is probably around a total of around $1,500.00 to $2,000.00, hopefully including monitors as well. But, to be honest, I am more than willing to go over my budget, if need be.

For the GPU, I kind of prefer nVidia, so, is the GTX 780Ti? Or GTX 980? Would prefer better cooling, since the weather here could get really hot, and don't want too much heat in the card, if I can help it. Also, please suggest the other parts?

2. Aim

Well, it's going to be used for gaming purposes. I'm currently playing Titfanfall. But, I plan to play Far Cry 4, and others. Most important is that I want to play the games in high or ultra.

3. Monitors
Only 1 monitor. I just plan on buying 1080p monitors.

4. Peripherals
For Windows, I'm currently using Windows 8 for my laptop and all the games that I play run with no obvious problems. But, is Windows 7 still better than Win 8 or 8.1?

5. Why are you upgrading?
Don't really want to play on laptop. I've been "planning" on buying one for a year and a half now.

First of all, a pet peeve of mine is when someone says nVidia. It's NVIDIA. Even LinusTechTips' videos say NVIDIA. Their Facebook page says NVIDIA. I made a post about this before. It would be nice to say the correct way of the wording.

Anyways, I would recommend the GTX 980. It performs the same if not better, and it has a much lower TDP. But in your case, I would actually recommend a GTX 970. It is more than enough for 1080p. I'm using a GTX 770 and I get ultra everything at 1080p. I hope you don't get an overkill graphics card.

Windows is just your preference. If Windows 8 looks bad for whatever reason, then get 7. If you want the newer one and 8 looks great, get 8.

Since you don't have much room, I would recommend you a mATX build. For $1500, you can get this build (check the prices in HK since this PCPP is in US):

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($94.98 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V2 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($80.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: A-Data XPG SX900 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($124.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB ACX Video Card  ($329.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower Case  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer  ($19.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: BenQ GL2460HM 60Hz 24.0" Monitor  ($144.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1464.44

You can use your keyboard and mouse. The price is kind of low, but where you live, the prices can be a lot higher.

GTX 980 would be a pretty darn great gpu but the GTX 970 might be slightly better since it's fairly cost effective. @Skeith mind you even though you're using us dollars I'm guessing that it's already converted from HK dollars (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Please become a member of the Linus Tech Tips forum, keep writing smug remarks & let us love you. Peace out.

Well, the prices that I see are usually in USD, so, I was just using USD, then, would probably just convert it later.

a 980 will fully utilise the 144hz the monitor displays :D

Yeah, in USD. That's probably around HKD 15,000 +/- 1,000?

ah nice you have a good budget! (hmm for the parts i linked you you'll need to include your own fans, i suggest the airflow series from corsair so your computer has good ventilation  :D)

first off will you OC

also are you against watercooling?

Well, I would like to try OC'ing it during colder weather, but, i don't know, tbh. If building/assembling the parts aren't too hard, watercooling is okay. This is my first pc build, so, I'd prefer it to be a bit more stress free, if possible.

Thanks for the list!

Tentative list: (please note that most of them were given to me by a friend, so I'm not sure which model of that particular brand he was talking about)

Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 7

CPU: i7 4790/K

RAM: 16GB (Kingston 8GB 1600 x2)

SSD: 256GB Plextor M5P

HDD: Seagate 2TB

PSU: Cooler Master 650W (something about 650W is ok)

GPU: Is GTX 780Ti even worth considering? If not, GTX 970.

Also, friend said something about buying MSI's version of GTX for "better compatibility" with motherboard?

Idk what prices are in hong kong but definatley get 4790k if you can afford it

Thats good ram :)

SSD i usually just go samsung 840 but that one looks fine

I prefer WD hard drives just bacause I have been using them forever

If you are not SLI 650 will be fine CX650 or an EVGA Supernova are your best bet, seasonic is pretty good also

do not get a 780/780ti.... get a 980 or a 970 absolutely

I am calling bull s**t on your freind... lol jk :) there is no such thing as compatability unless you are crossfiring/sli.... even then the gpu doesnt matter, its the motherboard that matters. Definatly buy Asus, EVGA, Msi 980/970 :) \

also because it is such a low tdp due to maxwell the reference blower design looks sick and I personally would get a reference 980.

Hope this helps and welcome to LTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, thanks for the help! I guess only the GPU would be subject to any changes, if any. Now, it's time to play the waiting game for payday! :)

EDIT- boop forgot the monitor xD This would be a beastly setup! :D

Kinda dumb putting such a high wattage PSU for this card, even for sli in the future. He may as well go for a 970 considering it's 1080p.

NOTE: For CPU Cooler, the model should have been 212 X (seems like my model is not available in pcpartpickers)

For PC Case, the model should have been HAF 912 Advanced (no 912 Advanced to choose from)

For PSU, the same with the two above, almost the same model.
