I've been always confused about this.

 

Some time ago, I think TF2 was not a free game and you had to pay for it in the orange box.

 

why is it made free now?

 

is there in-game purchases in it?

 

I have a friend who bought this game and now it's f2p lol.

Hasn't it always been free? it was for the 3 years I've been on pc

Well, it's free to play, but you have to pay for many items in the game - that's pretty much what Free-To-Play means these days.

that's actually a good move. i think it's the same with CS:GO? Just that it's 15$.

To be fair guys, let's remember that tf2 is balanced. I do better with the stock loadouts compared to anything else, and the only things that are only available via real-world cash is the cosmetic stuff, and even then most of it is grindable.
