So I've finally decided to make the move to an SSD for my OS + main programs. My questions are:

1) How much noticeable performance improvements will there be?

2) Which SSD is the best value for money as of right now?

Thanks!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Samsung 840 120gb. Great performance. Great value. Can't go wrong with it.

SSDs are amazing :D much faster booting/loading makes things very nice.

Kingston V300

ADATA XPG SX900

Plextor M5P

Samsung 840 Pro is overpriced, there's really not much difference between the top performing SSDs.  Samsung 840 non-pro uses meh TLC flash, there are plenty of solid MLC drives which performn better at around the same price.

Just upgraded the notebooks of two of my customers to Samsung 840 (non-pro) and they were amazed how fast their old celeron can actually run.

I'm currently using an Intel SSD and love it.

Here's how my Intel SSD performs in Anvil's Storage Utilities.

There seem to be a lot of people here in favor of the Samsung 840 Pro.. are there any reasons why or is it just personal preference :P

And also will only boot times be reduced, or are there many other benefits to having an SSD boot drive?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Can say a personal preference. :)

It is way faster than the 840 (non pro version) and comes with free copy of Acronis True Image HD. Backed up my C drive with it and restored on this SSD. Windows 7 starts up within 25 sec. Probably will be way faster if I install Windows.

I'm also thinking of getting a Samsung 840 Pro 128gb and i've been looking at reviews and benchmarks and i found out that there is a latency issue on 128gb version i'm not sure about the 256gb. Its bugging me a little bit since i'm going to build a system really soon and the 840 pro 256gb is way outta price bracket for me and the 128gb has a latency issue. I'm not sure what to do.... :C

Any suggestions?? :D
