Why is it that most mobile devices (notebooks, tablets, smartphones and other smart mobile devices) on the market use chips like A8, Qualcomm Snapdragon and mediatek and so few from AMD's APUs?

I was under the impression AMD in theory is doing quite well in this area. Should that not be the case, what are the challenges semi conductor/ SoC firms are facing?

Or have I been completely mistaken in thinking that the products above are the same thing/same league?

They aren't really in the same league. They're really more like Celeron territory. And the ARM chips you mentioned are still a cut below Atom.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

They consume too much power to be put in  a device with a tiny battery
