Hi guys, this is the second day that my Asus K53 laptop won't connect to our modem's wifi. It's always worked fine for the last to years. I did the troubleshooting, it didn't solve the problem. I restarted my modem and laptop multiple times, still no wifi. The Ethernet works fine and my other devices (phone, other laptop) connect to the wifi fine. Any ideas of other things I can try?

Thanks!

go to command prompt and try these

ipconfig /release

after it complets. wait for few second and then do

ipconfig /renew

If it still does not work then try to delete the WiFi from the Networks and then establish a fresh connection to the WiFi. Before you do these, make sure that you are able to connect using the Cable.

What kind of errors are you getting? Are you using MAC filtering on your router? (never mind, if you connected before that shouldn't be an issue)

My laptop detects the network but it fails to connected to it, when I click on it.

Try using the cable and see if it work

The cable works.

go to command prompt and try these

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Thanks, I'll try those and report back.

The cable works.

Not the cable what i meant so say is connect the cable to the laptop and see if you get connection if you do then is related to the wifi device driver

That what I meant too, it connects fine via the cable. I restarted my wifi adapter a few times and it connected for a few minutes, now it's gone again.

The cmd prompts didn't work either. :/

Can you connect to other WiFi hot spots or is it just that one router?

I'll have to try on monday, but I'll check. Thought it could be the modem but my other laptop connects just fine. It's not as abused as this one though. :P

Haha alright whenever convenient, that'll give us a better idea if it's the wifi adapter that's causing it.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. I woke up today and the wifi is connecting fine to my laptop. I think it was just our modem acting up again. I'm going to try and convince my house-mates that we need to buy a separate router. I suspect that the modem can't handle having the 20+ devices we have connected to that thing.
