The 295x2 i believe is two R9-290x cards, so the r9-295x2 would be more powerful, but having two r9-290's would be a lot cheaper, and you have the potential to add a 3rd card if you want

Hmmm....I heard one is better for gaming? I guess heat is another concern for me as well.

Because the r9295x2 has a CLC built into it, the two Hawaii GPUs can boost higher and maintain that boost rather than throttling down as an air cooler would.

Air coolers are louder as smaller fans + higher RPM comepared to the push/pull single 120 or push+pull double 120 mm fans.

A disadvantage is that you need to have a single 120mm rad mount fairly close by.

Cheapest twin 290x = 939.98

2x295 = 999.99

Not really a whole lot of difference in pricing.

I would go with 295x2 because I only have 2x physical 16x pcie gen 3 slots on my motherboard and in sli/crossfire they run in 8x/8x. If I go with 2x 290x both slots will be filled and there won't be any room for expansion in the future. With the 295x2, I'd get better performance because of less thermal throttling and have the potential to run quadfire with 4x gpu's with a second 295x2 in the future.

With the current price drop on the 295x2 I see no reason not to get it over two 290s, especially considering that the 295x2 is made from two 290x gpus rather and 290 gpus.

The lowest price on a 290 right now is $370 ($740 for two)

The cheapest 290x is $470 ($940 for two)

295x2s are running for 1K each

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

I'm going to be running a x99 platforum with the 5960x with an Asus Rampage V. So I will have 4 PCI slots. Space isn't an issue.

Go with the 295X2. Some reviewers experience higher performance compared to 2 290X and also bettter temps :D

You also get more display port outputs with the 295x2, it's better for running multi display set ups. Especially for higher res like 4k where the extra multi-stream bandwidth is necessary for basic 60hz operation.

You're gonna need display adaptors because the vs239h-p doesn't have any display port inputs.

In my country i would 100% take 2x 290x since here 295x2 costs 1200+euros and 2x 290x starts from 600e to 1000e for both :)
