So I'm gonna be buying a new graphics card this week if I'm able and I'm going for an R9 290/R9 290X. My question is, do you think the 290X is worth the extra $100+ for it? I found a Sapphire R9 290x Toxic on Amazon for roughly $547, but the exact same card only it's a 290 (and it's not Toxic lol) for about $427. Is it worth it? To the best of my knowledge the difference is at most like 10% in computing power and that's it. They both have that amazing tri-x cooling unit, 4GB of RAM and a 512 bit bus. The 290X is clocked in a bit faster but I'm sure I can OC both of them to about the same level and the 290x has 256 more stream processors

290 performs within 9% of the 290X, a mild overclock will take you there...enjoy some beer with the rest of the money ;)

Hey

I myself have an 39 290 running in my other rig.

It works great. What res are you planning to run it on?

An r9 290 works great for 1080p and if you would be upgrading to 4k, you could just add in one more r9 290.

as everyone has stated above the R9 290 is better as its cheaper and will perform almost the same at stock but once an overclock is on it it will be fantastic. it also depends on the resolution for example if your running at single 1080p then you wouldnt notice the difference but once you get to a higher resolution then it will start opening up a gap

Any proper 750 watt PSU will run a couple 290s. Even a good 650 will be fine.

just to be on the safe side you should use at least a 750w psu.

get corsair, seasonic or coolermaster
